The new challenge starting over at Cardz 4 Guys (#308) has a theme of Poppies/Remembrance Day. Since this is a holiday in the UK and something I wasn’t familiar with, I looked it up and found that it is similar to Veteran’s Day that we celebrate here.
I was going for a mixed media look, which I think is easier to keep looking a little more masculine. I used some puddled ink to make the background, then when dry I stamped the poppies. I wanted to make them appear on top so I made a mask and stamped the darker area on the left, then used some embossing paste over the side on the right. Unfortunately the paste was kind of chunky, so I wasn’t able to get nice, clean lines from the stencil. I decided to live with it because mixed media really isn’t supposed to look all neat and perfect!
I used Zig water color markers to color the poppies, and then splattered the whole card front with some of the red and dark gray inks. I finished the card with a thank you sentiment.
I should have looked it up too!! That might have helped me…I could have included a solider like Caz did. What great inspiration you are offering to those who decide to play along with this challenging challenge we are offering today…Poppies & Masculine…a tough one but you rocked it with this beautiful collage card!! #C4G308
