Today I have a card to show you for the new challenge at the Alphabet Challenge. We are on the letter “Y” and the challenge is to use your favorite color combination. You can visit the blog to get all the details and to the rest of the design team’s inspiration.
I really have been drawn to shades of orange and yellow so I decided to try an alcohol ink technique I recently learned. To create the background I used several different Copic markers in shades of yellow and orange and colored them on a piece of vellum. I then spritzed it with rubbing alcohol and used a blower tool (the one I have is by Tim Holtz and works great!) to move the ink around. This is so much neater and even a bit more controllable than other alcohol techniques I have used. To attach it to the card base I used some tape that is made just for vellum so you can’t even see it.
I didn’t want to cover up too much of the background so I used a pre-made little envelope and note card that came in a kit and added a few enamel dots and hearts to finish it off.
That’s just gorgeous Melanie – I love the background
Hi, Melanie!
This card is beautiful! Your background is so cool – I really can’t believe that you made it yourself! I might have to try this but will need your vellum adhesive recommendation. It drives me crazy to see it through the vellum so usually don’t use it much. Have a great week!
