Colored Shells

Greetings and thanks for stopping by! It’s Monday and that means I have a card to share for the new challenges at Always Fun Challenges (#201) and at Double Trouble (#77). The theme at Always Fun is “Anything Goes,” so no matter what the topic or style or kind of project you create we would love to see you share it in our gallery, you have until Sunday, 2/21.

The challenge at Double Trouble has a several parts to it, but remember, you only have to meet the requirement of Thing 1 (which is to use multiple layers on your project -I used 6!) to enter the challenge. Meeting the challenges of Thing 2 and Thing 3 are optional, but will give you extra entries in the random drawing. See the photo below or visit the Double Trouble blog for all the details. This challenge runs for two weeks, so if you would like to join in you have until Sunday, 2/28.

We are also partnering with Crafter’s Cafe for challenge #77 so I would like to join the challenge there as well!

Now on to a few details about my card. I used a new set from Stampin’ Up, called “Friends Are Like Seashells.” I also got the die cuts and embossing folder that go with it. I used a shimmery white paper for the background, which I used the embossing folder on. I used that same shimmery white paper to stamp the shells on. Since the shells are the same size as the ones in the embossing folder, I ran them through to give them some texture.

The seaweed was made from one of the die cuts, which I cut from colored card stock, and I also cut a piece of vellum to go over it. That die cut makes a full size background, but I didn’t use the whole thing, just cut off the bottom and one of the seaweed pieces to use on my card. I arranged all the pieces and added some pearls and water drop embellishments to finish it off.

I realized as I was working with this set how many different color combinations would work, even some a little out of the normal sea shore palette. While I had all the stuff out I made a few more to join in these additional challenges:

Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge – Add Some Texture

The Rainbow Card Challenge #26 – Mostly Mauve

Color My Heart Color Dare #430 – Tic Tac Toe (I used the diagonal of avacado, lagoon, and nectarine, and also added some canary and sapphire)

As You See It #243 – Color challenge

  8. Melanie – I love this bundle so much! I REALLY like how you used vellum for some of your sea grass! I’ll have to remember that trick! I’ve ordered the shimmering paint so that I can get a pearlescent appearance on other cardstock colors. Your cards are all so beautiful! -Donna

  9. Melanie, I love the cards. How creative of you to make it in different colors to fit into challenges… but also to show how easily cards can be made to look totally different with varied color combinations!!! Very well done. I love the mauve and thank you for sharing it with the Rainbow Card Challenge. Come and join us next month. We’d love to see what you create.
