I am going to call this my partial die cut technique, but without the die cut! In order to cut out only part of the image I used my Exacto knife along a ruler cutting from top to bottom, skipping over the image. I then used my scissors to cut around the right side of the image, just as if I would have had a die cut. You can see the cutting detail below. I used a contrasting paper to go underneath it, which is adhered to the inside of the card base.
