Today’s cards are for the latest challenge at the Twofer Card Challenge (#38). The prompt this month is “cupcake/cake” and the objective is to use the same stamp, die, or stencil in two different ways.
To get started I found some ideas from a few other challenges, but first off I chose a stamp from Unity Stamp Company that was a birthday cake – doubling as a sand castle for my second card.
I looked at the challenge at Color My Heart Color Dare (#443) to help choose my colors for the birthday card. I went with red orange, orange, and yellow orange.
Other challenges I’d like to join with this card:
AAA Birthday #25 – Celebrating their 2nd Birthday!!!
Inkspirational #239 – Triangle
Dies R Us #169 – anything goes with dies (Elizabeth Craft Designs)
Addicted to Stamps and More #405 – use dies or stencils
My second card uses the cake stamp as a sand castle. I cut off the candle and made a little banner with a sentiment perfect for the beach. For both cards I did a lot of fussy cutting and paper piecing. The other stamps are all from a Lawn Fawn set.
Challenges I’d like to join in with this card:
Paperminutes #691 – create a scene
bastel-traum #101 – water
Little Red Wagon #601 – Sand and Sea
You’ve done an awesome job of paper piecing, Melanie! I love the sand castle with the banner waving from the top! The birthday cake is so pretty with all the banners and I love the matching banner flying over top! Thanks for sharing these with us at The Twofer Challenge!
Both are wonderful cards. I have to admit, the sand cake looks good enough to eat and that little crabby seems to have his sights set on it. Thanks so much for joining us over at Little Red Wagon Challenge this week!
Really cute card…thanks for sharing with Color Dare!!
How clever you are, Melanie! I never would have thought about using a cake stamp for a sand castle, but it worked perfectly! And your beach scene to surround it is fantastic! I also love your pretty birthday cake design and the great use of that pp with the extra celebration banners on a string across the top! Thank you for playing in TCC #38! Hugs, Darnell
How clever to use one as a sandcastle! Both great cards. Lovely colour choices from our colour wheel. Thanks for playing along with Color My Heart Color Dare. X
Your paper pieced birthday cake framed against the pierced layers is so pretty, Melanie … and looks scrumptious! How brilliant to use the same image unconventionally as a banner-strewn sand castle … so clever … and such a sweet scene! Thanks so much for playing along with us at Twofer! Anita 🙂
Beautiful.

Great way to use the banner elements as part of the cake as well – ties in the elements perfectly together. Thanks for sharing with us at Colour Dare 🙂

Your birthday cake card with banners is lovely. I like the warm colors of your DPs and great job paper piecing – a fun and effective technique. Also, great idea using the same stamp as a sand castle:)
